A Study On Multiple and Single Case

Retrieving multiple cases is supposed to be an adequate retrieval strategy for guiding planners like SNLP because of the recognized exibility of these planners to interleave steps in the plans. In this paper, however, we will present a domain in which retrieving multiple cases is contrapro-ductive. We analyze the characteristics of the domain and show that merging cases is diicult because the alternatives to interleave steps in the plans are restricted in a signiicant way. We conclude that in this domain retrieving a single case is a more adequate strategy.
